Qantas last year outsourced its remaining ground-handling operations, meaning some airports are now entirely staffed by those that could miss out, effectively shutting down their operation to passengers.
The business said the “temporary measure” was due to a drop in flying that saw its capacity reduce from almost 100 per cent in May to just 40 per cent in July.
The airline said the team will be led by Clayton Utz’s Fred Prickett, who has previously represented gambling business Tatts in its “nine figure dispute” with the State of Victoria.
