Qantas and Jetstar expect to fly 350,000 people across the country between Friday and Monday, with 438,000 travelling through Sydney on the weekend and Monday.

The 31-year-old, four-engine bemouth, UR-82029, was on its way to the US territory of Guam in the North Pacific Ocean.  

Aircraft on display will include warbirds such as the Spitfire, Mustang and Boomerang as well as an aerobatics display from Paul Bennet in his Wolf Pitts Pro.

The state’s emergency services have already received 1,200 calls for help and made 65 rescues in the last 24 hours alone due to torrential rain and strong winds.

Direct flights between Auckland and Hobart only restarted for the first time in a generation in April last year, before stopping months later due to COVID restrictions.
