Currently, international passengers are bound by the rules set by the country they are flying into. It means those flying from Sydney to London aren’t mandated to wear a face covering, but passengers coming the other way do.
Captain Ian McBeth’s widow said, “Those in the best position to determine if it was safe to send the plane up have let all of our families down and have a lot to answer for.”
The airline’s deputy chairman, John Sharp, said it would also allow the airline to meet the increasing demand for its services given the “shocking reliability of both Qantas and Virgin”.
Air Marshal Robert Chipman attended the service in PNG to remember the demise of A4-233, which was carrying school-aged cadets alongside three RAAF aviators and one Army liaison officer.
