Domestic aviation continually broke all-time records for poor performance in April, June and July, but airports and airlines have spent the last few months recruiting more staff to cope with increased demand.
Rex was the top performing airline for flights departing on time in August – with Jetstar the worst. Darwin is Australia’s worst-performing major airport, with just 34 per cent of its 119 flights leaving on time.
It follows chairman Richard Goyder writing last week that his airline’s problems were being mirrored worldwide, and arguing that mainstream media were not reporting its improvements.
Virgin Orbit said on Tuesday it had signed an MOU with Australian infrastructure development company Wagner Corporation that will see it conduct a “demonstrator” launch in 2024.
It follows previous end-of-term getaways leading to record nationwide delays in April, June and July as the industry battled chronic staff shortages and COVID absences.
