There’s a new twist in the industry’s musical chairs battle over FIFO services after the competition regulator indicated in a preliminary finding that it would be unlikely to support Alliance’s current deal to cooperate with Virgin.
Defence said on Friday that 400 ADF personnel have deployed to Victoria to provide support, including sandbagging, transport for isolated families, water diversion and the construction of levees in flood-affected areas.
It comes after the business in August announced it would acquire another four MAX 8s to take its total domestic fleet to 92 Boeing 737 aircraft. It marked a significant increase from its original intention of having just 58 aircraft post-administration.
The high-profile Johannesburg service was due to launch on 1 November. Qantas CEO Alan Joyce even made the announcement in a joint press conference with WA Premier Mark McGowan.
The business has announced a tie-up with property group Mirvac that will see “underutilised” real estate in Ipswich, Queensland, transformed into mini fulfilment centres where the devices will also take off from.
CEO Dr Peter Cock said the organisation was “incredibly excited” and the announcement was a testament to long-standing efforts to support defence primes.
