Videos posted on social media showed the smaller P-63 fighter fly at speed directly into the larger B-17 before the aircraft crashed into the ground in front of onlookers.

The news also means Andrew Finch, the airline group’s general counsel, has stepped down as a director of the travel agent.

The first flight to arrive was a Scoot 787-8, 9V-OFJ, which departed Singapore at 9:30 pm on 8 November as flight TR6 and landed at 6:22 am local time the next day.  

The incident took place just before 3pm on Wednesday, with the wreckage of the two aircraft being found 200 metres apart in a paddock at Kybong, near Gympie.
