iscoverAvalon Airport has announced a significant reduction to its ILS (Instrument Landing System) approach fees.
Providing the aircraft does not land, Avalon has reduced its minimum instrument practice approach fees from $100 (plus GST) to $40 (plus GST) from April 1. Avalon Airport CEO Justin Giddings said the fee reduction would apply to aircraft under a maximum takeoff weight of 4.7 tonnes, which covered “around 90 per cent of aircraft that perform instrument approach training at Avalon Airport”.

State minister for the Aviation Industry, Gordon Rich-Phillips, welcomed the decision, highlighting the financial boost it will give to trainee pilots conducting practice instrument approaches. “Avalon operates one of only two or three Instrument Landing Systems in Victoria which are available for pilot training. This substantial reduction in fees for using the ILS is a major boost for the advanced pilot training sector,” Rich-Phillips said.
“The high cost of accessing ILS equipment for pilot training has been of major concern to training providers and this fee reduction is very welcome. I commend Avalon Airport for taking this initiative.”
