Western Sydney International (WSI) has signed on its sixth airline, with Fiji Airways to fly three times per week to Nadi starting early next year.
Commencing on 17 March, the service will operate overnight using 737 MAX 8 aircraft, adding more than 53,000 annual seats between Sydney and Nadi. It comes as operational testing ramps up with passenger trials ahead of the airport’s opening in a month’s time.

“More than 70 per cent of our global city’s growing Fijian population call Western Sydney home and we’re delighted to be delivering a new, seamless service for them to connect with family and friends,” said WSI CEO Simon Hickey.
“Meanwhile, last year alone, more than 400,000 passengers travelled between New South Wales and Fiji, demonstrating the immense popularity of the warm, welcoming leisure destination and the more than 300 islands visitors can explore.
“The Fiji Airways services taking off from March next year will depart Western Sydney International at 11.55pm and arrive at Nadi just before 5am – meaning business travellers can make valuable productivity gains, while holiday makers can make the most of long weekend opportunities and swift connections for boat and ferry services to kick off their getaways.”
WSI passengers will also be able to connect through Nadi to destinations in the Pacific, Asia, and North America, with Fiji Airways CEO Paul Scurrah saying a Western Sydney route is “a natural next step” for the carrier.
“It is one of the fastest-growing regions in New South Wales, and the continued investment and development in the area makes it an increasingly important gateway for Australia,” he said.
“It’s also home to one of the largest Pacific Islander communities in the country, including a significant Fijian population, so this route is about more than tourism and trade, it’s about making it easier for our own diaspora to stay connected to family and home.
“Australia is our largest source market, and this new direct service further strengthens connectivity, creating new opportunities for tourism, trade and business travel while making Fiji more accessible than ever. We can’t wait to welcome more Australians onboard the world’s happiest airline.”
Fiji Airways joins QantasLink, Jetstar, Singapore Airlines, Air New Zealand, and Vietjet as airlines confirmed to be operating from WSI, with Jetstar to launch the first flight on 25 October.
