Malaysia Airlines is permanently launching the A330neo on Brisbane-Kuala Lumpur services.

Replacing older A330-300 aircraft, the A330neo expansion comes as Malaysia Airlines increases from five to six flights per week as of 16 August, with daily services beginning on 25 October. The carrier  reintroduced its Brisbane route late last year.

“The introduction of the A330neo on Malaysia Airlines’ Brisbane-Kuala Lumpur services marks an important milestone in our continued fleet modernisation and network development, reflecting our confidence in the strength and potential of the Australasia market,” said Bryan Foong, CEO of airline business at Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG).

“With its enhanced operational efficiency, range and cabin comfort, the A330neo enables us to deliver a more elevated customer experience while strengthening connectivity between Queensland, Malaysia and key markets across Asia and beyond.

“Together with increased flight frequencies, this deployment reinforces our commitment to growing our presence in Australasia, delivering a consistently premium proposition anchored in Malaysian Hospitality, and building a future-ready network that supports our long-term growth strategy.”

Brisbane Airport saw a record 25 million passengers in 2025-26, and according to its executive general manager for aviation, Ryan Both, is now connected to 35 international destinations.

“Brisbane Airport is building momentum as a global gateway. As our city and state continue to grow, we’re seeing increasing demand for connections between Queensland and major destinations,” he said.

“Strong customer demand continues to reinforce the success of Malaysia Airlines’ Brisbane services. The arrival of the new A330neo is a vote of confidence in Brisbane, delivering the latest product and a quieter, and more efficient flying experience.

“These additional services will also provide more choice for travellers, strengthen links between Australia and Malaysia, and make it even easier for visitors to access Brisbane and explore everything Queensland has to offer.”

The news comes after Brisbane Airport’s new Master Plan was approved earlier this year.

The plan will set the course for the next two decades of development at Queensland’s largest international gateway, with demand tipped to increase dramatically, especially in the lead-up to the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Additionally, Brisbane is continuing works on its major $5 billion Future BNE transformation program, which includes renovations to its domestic and international terminals, continued planning for a new Terminal 3 precinct, aircraft parking and apron expansions, runway resurfacing, and a new aeromedical facility.
