“In June almost 85 per cent of all Qantas domestic flights departed on time, our best June results since 2017,” a Qantas spokesperson said.

“Our international network also performed strongly, with 74 per cent of flights departing on time and more than 87 per cent arriving within 30 minutes of schedule.

“Overall, last financial year we achieved our best on-time performance across our domestic and regional network since 2019, up 3.4 percentage points year on year.”

It follows Qantas ranking in the top three major airlines (more than 20,000 monthly flights) for five out of the past six months, the exception being March, where services were disrupted by Tropical Cyclone Narelle.

Australian Aviation understands that Qantas’ reliability has been improved by the addition of new aircraft, including the Airbus A321XLR and additional A220-300s, as well as a boost to aircraft availability across its network.

The Flying Kangaroo has also worked to improve its forecasting and decision-making with new operational planning tools and analytics, and has implemented initiatives such as dual-door boarding, streamlined aircraft turnaround procedures, and enhanced crew and aircraft allocations.

“We know how much our customers value getting to their destination safely and on time. Across our teams, there has been a huge amount of work to improve our reliability,” said Qantas Domestic CEO Markus Svensson in a statement.

“These results reflect the hard work of thousands of people across our operation who show up every day to keep our customers moving.

“While we know there’s always more to do and not every customer journey is seamless, improving reliability remains a key focus for us. We’re continuing to invest in initiatives that help more of our customers get away on time and deliver a better experience every time they fly with us.”

The national carrier placed 23rd among all airlines, with Garuda Indonesia taking the overall top spot at 97.13 per cent on-time arrivals, while Virgin ranked 18th among large airlines (10,000-20,000 flights) and 71st among all airlines. Jetstar took the 24th spot among large airlines and 90th overall.
