LifeFlight turns to AW139 for versatile reliability
At Rotortech, LifeFlight, one of Australia’s biggest aeromedical organisations and the largest operator of the Leonardo AW139, announced it was taking delivery of its 17th, bringing the total number of AW139s in Oceania to 80.
First operated in Australia in 2008, the AW139 has been part of the LifeFlight fleet since 2015, and LifeFlight expects to have one of the largest fleets in the country by 2027. The aeromedical provider has been seeing strong demand, last year airlifting more than 8,800 people across Queensland, up four per cent on 2024.
“The AW139 has been central to LifeFlight’s growth as one of Australia’s largest aeromedical services,” said LifeFlight chief executive and managing director Ashley van de Velde. “Missions and flying hours are rising year-on-year as our teams fly farther and faster into more complex situations than ever before. The partnership with Leonardo gives us the platform, engineering depth and training systems to meet that demand in safe and sustainable ways.”
