The eagle has new wings: The VH-92 Patriot and the dawn of a new presidential era
For over half a century, the silhouette of the Sikorsky VH-3D Sea King, with its distinctive white top and bulbous nose, has been the definitive visual shorthand for American executive power.
It was the “Green Giant” that plucked astronauts from the Pacific and ferried presidents from Nixon to Biden. But as of 28 April 2026, the era of the Sea King has officially drawn to a close. The Marine One mission has been fully handed over to a new titan of the skies: the VH-92A Patriot.
