“The ADF has successfully conducted a large-scale evacuation of indigenous community members from Numbulwar in the NT, demonstrating a rapid response and coordinated support in time of need,” according to a public statement from Joint Operations Command.

“Ahead of TC Narelle, ADF personnel safely evacuated more than 340 members of the community using two C-130J Hercules and one C-27 Spartan aircraft ensuring residents were moved quickly and securely.

“ADF teams on the ground also provided critical medical assistance and logistical support, working closely with local police authorities and services to prioritise the wellbeing of vulnerable members.

“This evacuation reflects the ADF’s enduring commitment to supporting Australian communities, particularly in times of crisis. The professionalism, compassion and adaptability of all personnel involved ensured a safe and effective outcome for the Numbulwar community.”

Special Envoy for Defence, Veterans Affairs and Northern Australia, Luke Gosling, thanked the Australian Defence Force personnel involved in the operations.

“Thanks to the ADF members who were in Numbulwar in Eastern Arnhem Land through the night, assessing the state of the airstrip, to allow evacuation of these community members,” he said.

“To everyone in FNQ and NT, all the best for the days ahead. Please listen to advice from emergency services and stay safe.”
