• Plans have been completed by Boeing to convert earlier model 747s to 747-300 stretched upper deck configuration, but the programme will only be launched for a minimum of 20 aircraft. If the programme proceeds, Alla Royal Jordanian Airline said it would become the first customer and would convert three aircraft and KLM has said it would convert 10 of its 747-2008.
• New helicopter rollouts this month were the first new production Kaman SH-2F Seasprite (LAMPS Mk 1) and the production prototype Sikorsky MH-53E mine counter measures helicopter. The MH-53E differs from the CH-53E in havingenlarged sponsons to carry 3200 US gallons (12,110 1) of fuel. This gives it a six hour endurance and in addition, it also runs a turbine powered generator on the magnetic influence hydrofoil sled which is trailed in the water during mine sweeping missions.
