Us/Australia Air Talks Continue:

Crucial talks aimed at specifically defining the contentious Australia/US air accord are set to reopen in October.

The latest round of talks follow on from those held in Canberra during August. Essentially, the US Dept of Transport does not recognise Australia’s 50% rule for north Asia Australia/US traffic. Australia considers that all Australia/US traffic on routes via Japan least 50% through traffic whilst the US claims that this has never been apart of the air agreement between the two nations and that US carriers have the right to pick up and fly as many Japanese to Australia as they wish.
