WSI gets ready for take-off
When you walk through the doors of the new Western Sydney International Airport (or WSI, for short), you could be forgiven for thinking it was already up and running. Screens display mock-up flight schedules, check-in and bag drop kiosks patiently await passengers, and an atmosphere of shiny newness is everywhere, from the departures hall to the security checkpoint, the gates, and the baggage carousels.
Of course, WSI is not set to open for passengers until the end of next year, and when we tour the almost-complete terminal, we do notice the “almost” part – mainly the empty spaces where retail and food outlets are going to go – but aside from those, it’s as if we could catch a flight from here right now.
