As Australia’s AH-64E Apache fleet has continued to grow, a new chapter has opened for Army aviation in Australia. These cutting-edge attack helicopters mark a decisive upgrade over the outgoing Tiger fleet, but their arrival also invites reflection on a deeper, more existential question: in an era of drones, advanced air defence, and peer-power contestation, just how viable is the Apache in modern battlespaces?
The US is wrestling with the same question, and Australia can learn from what it’s discovering.
