Sydney’s Bankstown and Camden Airports will have a new CEO with the appointment of current chief operating officer Tom Smith to the top job.

Smith, who will take over from airport owner Aeria Management Group’s (AMG) incumbent CEO Daniel Jarosch, has served as AMG COO for the past two years, overseeing projects including road upgrades, embedded network enhancements and the installation of more than 8,000 solar panels.

Prior to AMG, Smith led Industrial Development at real estate firm Dexus (NSW, Queensland and Western Australia) from 2019-22, before which he held a number of senior real estate and property roles at Qantas between 2011 and 2019.

“Since joining AMG in 2022, Tom has driven the enhancement of facilities and infrastructure at Aeria and Camden Airport and the delivery of multiple new commercial initiatives for the aviation and non-aviation sectors,” said AMG chairman Peter Achterstraat.

“Under his leadership, AMG will continue to maximise opportunities for investment, partnerships and long-term growth, including the proposed major new aviation hangar project and new retail, community and commercial centre at Aeria.”

Achtenstraat also thanked Jarosch for his “significant and successful contribution” to AMG.

“Daniel’s passion, vision and dedication have built a strong team and robust foundation for continued success for our customers and community,” he said.

“He has played a pivotal role in shaping the success of AMG and the transformation of our airport precincts.”

In a statement, Smith, who is also training for his private pilot licence at Bankstown Airport, said he was looking forward to taking up the position on 12 August.

“Aeria Precinct and Camden Airport play a critical role in providing essential services and driving economic and employment growth,” he said.

“I am proud to lead a company whose customers contribute so much to the people and businesses of metropolitan and regional NSW, across crucial general aviation services and sectors such as retail, manufacturing, distribution and logistics.”

AMG last year announced it would pour $130 million into new infrastructure projects, including $50 million into a new aviation hub with as many as nine new hangars, plus $80 million into a mixed-use precinct with retail and industrial facilities.
