The industry’s night of nights is a black-tie/military mess dress gala ceremony on Thursday, 18 July 2024, at the National Convention Centre, Canberra. Click here to buy tickets.

Individual finalists that have been selected this year include representatives from Northrop Grumman Australia, Nova Systems, KBR, DroneShield, and Hypersonix while the highest-scoring individual winner will receive the prestigious Excellence Award.

In 2023, that accolade was given to Marian-Andrei Rizoiu, an associate professor leading the behavioural data science lab at the University of Technology Sydney. He was named Academic of the Year earlier in the evening.

The group categories include companies such as archTIS, BAE Systems Australia, AeroPM, Pacific Aerospace Consulting, and Babcock.

Academics, academic institutions, female defence leaders, and the top innovators of the industry have also been shortlisted to compete for the awards.

“This event is our chance to recognise those who have gone above and beyond in innovating Australia’s defence sector,” said Liam Garman, editor of Defence Connect.

“Now more than ever, we need to acknowledge industry’s best and brightest and those who work tirelessly to deliver much-needed capabilities in support of Australia’s national security.

“I look forward to celebrating with our amazing finalists and winners on the night.”

Hailed as the most anticipated program of the year, the Australian Defence Industry Awards provides national recognition to the top businesses and professionals in the nation’s defence industry as it embarks on a period of rapid transformation by embracing defence technology and capability building.

The awards – which champion people and businesses rather than products and platforms – acknowledge all defence industry stakeholders, from primes, small-to-medium enterprises (SME), academic institutions, and associations, to high-performing individuals such as defence executives, Indigenous and female leaders, students, scientists, technicians, and academics.

The awards were open to all businesses operating in Australia that have been supporting the defence supply chain and aims to showcase the depth of talent in the nation’s defence industry while affirming the sector’s essential role in supporting the expansion of Australia.

The finalist submissions will be delivered to a judging panel that consists of respected professionals and business leaders. They will assess each submission against the criteria of each award category.

The judges will score each part of the submission across the category’s criteria, giving an aggregated score. Several judges will individually assess each submission for each category, offering a blended score and assessment.

The combined judging scores for each submission for each category are tabulated, with the highest-scoring submission deemed the winner. Click here to view the methodology.

Winners will be announced at the black-tie/military mess dress gala ceremony on Thursday, 18 July 2024 at the National Convention Centre, Canberra. Click here to buy tickets.
