Australian Aviation is in the middle of an ambitious project to digitise our entire archive. To celebrate, we’re republishing this 2007 piece from our founder, Jim Thorn, charting how he started the publication in 1977. 

The “first of its kind” trial, led by Wisk Aero and including RPAS operator Insitu Pacific, the NZ Civil Aviation Authority, ATC operator Airways NZ, and Indigenous-led aerospace venture Tāwhaki, incorporated take-offs, landings, and navigation through controlled and uncontrolled airspace.

In its submission to next year’s Aviation White Paper, the advocacy body for regional aviation said government assistance is needed to support regional aviation through the transition to net zero, highlighting the pressures from skills shortages and the cost of doing business.

The TWU’s ballot saw 99 per cent of participating cabin staff vote in favour of 24-hour work stoppages, while an average of 98 per cent voted in favour across all possible actions including shorter stoppages and overtime bans. In total, 90 per cent of Virgin cabin staff participated.

The plane took off at 3:28pm local time on 30 November from Airbus’ production facility in Mirabel, Canada, where pilots completed both low- and high-altitude checks of its electrical, navigation and comms systems before touching down again at 6:22pm.

The aviation safety watchdog says there are currently around 1.8 million drone users in Australia, with “millions more” expected to buy or receive their first drone over the next year. Its ad campaign, which rolled out on Sunday, includes social media, retail partners, digital video, and digital display.
