Police are investigating after a man allegedly attempted to steal a helicopter from a hangar at Mackay Airport late last week.
CCTV footage later captured the alleged thief trying to flee the scene atop a red tractor. Watch the footage below.
Queensland Police revealed that the man forcibly entered the hangar, located off Casey Avenue at Mackay Airport, at around 5:50am on Friday, 21 January.
The man then attempted to enter and steal a helicopter, however, an emergency alarm was triggered, which caused the man to flee.
He jumped on a red tractor in order to make his swift getaway, driving it across the tarmac for several minutes, and attempting to ram the tractor through a nearby gate, unsuccessfully.
The ambitious would-be thief then took off on foot.
Queensland Police described the man as Caucasian in appearance with an athletic build. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a white cap, red singlet, light-coloured shorts and white slides.
Authorities are appealing for any witnesses, or anyone with knowledge of the incident, to come forward.
Police are also calling upon the driver of an orange Kia Rio that was parked nearby on Casey Avenue at the time of the incident, as seen in the video, to come forward.
Mackay Airport has been contacted for comment.
