Hannah Dowling explores the current state of the flag carrier’s superjumbo fleet, to deduce which two aircraft could see an early retirement in the desert.
IN AUGUST this year, Qantas announced it will bring 10 of its 12 Airbus A380s back into service, five of which are set to return to the skies in 2022, while the remaining two A380s will be retired.
This was a major acceleration on behalf of Qantas, which had previously suggested it would keep its entire A380 fleet grounded and stored in the desert until at least 2023.
