Women are, unfortunately, still woefully underrepresented in aviation – from pilots, to engineers, to Defence personnel. They make up just 5 per cent of the world’s commercial airline cohort, and 11.5 per cent of all astronauts who have flown to space.
In Australia, the outlook is marginally better for girls. Women make up around 9 per cent of Australia’s pilots, but a mere 2 per cent of all aircraft maintenance engineers. While 15 per cent of the RAAF are women, there are today just 38 female fighter pilots in the RAAF.
These statistics raise the question – where are all the women? And what needs to be done to better support women (and ultimately, everyone) in establishing life-long aviation careers and fulfilling their professional goals.
Hosted by Australian Aviation’s own Anna Grbas and Hannah Dowling, Sky’s The Limit is your newest audio hub for insight and analysis of the women who help shape and drive our industry.
Together, Anna and Hannah don’t just want to work at understanding and closing the gender gap, but will also engage with the incredible females who have already broken that glass ceiling and excelled in this industry – to hear their stories and learn from them.
From flight instructors to astronauts, engineers to chief executives; Sky’s The Limit is your newest hub for aviation industry insight, news and history. We will elevate the voices of women across the aerospace and defence industry, tackle the big questions, and advocate for viable solutions to real-world problems in the industry.
Join us and learn from some of Australia’s biggest female aviation stars, from airwomen, scientists, historians, advisers and key decision makers, to those fi ghting for change – such as pioneering Australian aviator Deborah Lawrie.
