Podcast: The urgent need for an industry-wide recovery strategy

written by Tasha Levy | April 8, 2020

While the federal government has responded to the airline sector with billions of dollars’ worth of support, the struggle of small aviation businesses through the devastating COVID-19 crisis remain largely unrecognised. Businesses that were already financially strained due to the cost of keeping up with existing regulation are now in even direr straights.

Chief executive of Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association Benjamin Morgan joins host Phil Tarrant and Christian “Boo” Boucousis to delve into the crippling effect of coronavirus on the Australian aviation industry as a whole and outline the action that needs to be taken by the government and these smaller businesses to gear them up for recovery when the current situation dissipates.

On this episode, Benjamin also unpacks the somewhat unsavoury motivation behind the recent closure of a Canberra Airport cross runway and how it is reflective of a wider issue that is pervading the Australian airport sector.

The federal Government boasting about providing the airline industry with Billions of dollars worth of support is simply a lie and we’ve all fallen for it.
Most of this support comes in the form of tax savings and deferred charges for services that airlines are currently not using (because aeroplanes are parked). How does an airline save millions of dollars in fuel tax if they are not buying fuel? It’s time the Government made a real promise of support to the airline industry rather than empty promises.

Why support industry if they are badly run and going to do a Holden on the tax payers!?

Also, you start a company to make money, you also dont expect the tax payer to subsidise losses when they happen do you?! Funny how only Board members and CEO’s make out like MILLIONAIRES regardless of what a company finacials state!

Geez, I am so sick of people and their ‘socialist / communist’ mindset when it is about them.
