WOFA Podcast: The Future of Aerial Ride-Sharing

written by Anna Grbas | October 27, 2019

Meet George Jetson. He’s halved the time to commute to work, and will never miss a flight by being stuck in traffic.

Soon, this could be a reality for you too.

In this episode, Boo sits down with Natasha Santha from L.E.K. Consulting to address concerns, curiosities, and complexities of the large scale operation to bring aerial ride-sharing to our major cities.

Recent developments suggest that by 2023 we will have the ability to skip time-critical and congested routes by opting for an aerial ride-sharing service.

Many companies believe air taxis will be flying around sooner than we think, and some have commercial launch expectations within the next five years (L.E.K. Consulting)

Many eVTOL (electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft) organisations around the world are currently prototyping and testing these aircraft. However, in order for us to safely use this ride-sharing option, they will need certification.

Melbourne is set to be one of the first cities in Australia to trial flying taxis, with Uber Air announcing it will be testing flights as soon as 2020.

If you’re stuck in traffic or in a ride-sharing vehicle, be sure tune in and listen to Natasha’s report on delivering this fully autonomous or piloted service to our skies within the next decade.
