Out of the Blue: Part 5 – Final

As I’m writing this I’m also preparing to attend the funeral of my father. It’s not the first time I’ve experienced the loss of a close loved one. So, when I say having to leave this Earth is just a part of the circle of life (we’re all going to go through the process), I don’t want you to think I’m a shallow person with no emotion. Losing those you love is always a difficult process but like many things we do in life, prior experience does deliver increased coping mechanisms.

My Dad made many choices, some were good, others not so good. Unfortunately, his last months, weeks and days weren’t the most comfortable, requiring oxygen to support the most basic task of breathing, something most of us take for granted. He made some positive changes later in life but many of them were too late, for example reducing his alcohol intake and quitting smoking only when his body was giving him feedback that it could no longer handle the high levels of toxins it was constantly required to process. He had some regrets, which unfortunately he could not amend.
