The Flying Training
Action Group (FTAG) is a new RAAA initiative and preliminary work with this group has already begun. The RAAA is working with all interested Flying Training Organisations (FTOs) by considering how we might best capture the key stress points in their businesses and to then develop a targeted plan with detailed steps on to ameliorate them. This strategic group will be based on the success of the Engineering Training Action Group (ETAG) model. The ETAG model has been quite a significant and useful tool when meeting with Ministers at Parliament to educate those not familiar with the big picture issue and enable a productive conversation between various parties to find common ground of understanding when dealing with a complex issue.
Bite sized chunks are key in the strategy as the relevant agencies can’t seem to grasp the big picture without recoiling in defence. For example, we are aware that under the current CRICOS award system there will be changes impacting on Diplomas for Instructor Ratings, Cert IV qualifications and teaching international students. This is one example of what we perceive to be one of many issues that are creating hardship and difficulty in running an FTO.
