Paving the way
Understanding the essentials of airfield pavements
Perhaps the most crucial part of any airport’s infrastructure is its airfield pavements. This infrastructure forms the runways, taxiways, aprons and parking areas that are essential for safely, facilitating the millions of aircraft movements occuring at Australian airports every year. It’s also no secret that the most significant aeronautical infrastructure projects at airports involve constructing new (or maintaining existing) pavements.
If we are to consider just some of the pavement projects underway at the major airports, we have Brisbane Airport commencing the next stage of construction on its new parallel runway, Melbourne Airport is well advanced with the planning of its third runway, Perth Airport has begun designing its new runway and taxiway system to support further international expansion, and Hobart Airport is proceeding with its runway extension project.
