DoctorBazza’s Hands of Rescue takes flight with PNG’s first Beaver

A veteran De Havilland Canada Beaver is set to take up residence in Milne Bay Province to operate Papua New Guinea’s first flying doctor service.

DHC-2 Beaver P2-HOR has been acquired by carpenter-turned -obstetrician Dr Barry Kirby for use by the not-for-profit Hands of Rescue Foundation. Formed in 2011, the foundation’s focus is on reducing maternal mortality throughout MBP and the rest of PNG. (The country’s maternal mortality rate is 730 per 100,000 births, in Australia it is only 6. 8 per 100,000. ) Kirby used his own funds to acquire the aircraft.
