Qantas Group News

Qantas ferried 747-48E VH-OEB from Sydney to Hong Kong as QF6015 on March 10 for planned maintenance.

767-338ER VH-OGK has been in storage at Victorville since August 15 ’14 and has been sold. On March 14 it was cancelled from the Australian register and the following day was registered N380CM to Cargo Aircraft Management of Wilmington, Ohio. The 767 then ferried from Victorville to Wilmington on March 23.

767-338ER N208CR is the former VH-OGR and departed Victorville on March 16 for Honolulu, Guam and Paya Lebar where it will be converted for freight operations for SF Airlines. The 767 had been in storage at Victorville since November 25 ’15 and was ferried to Paya Lebar in its basic Qantas livery.

737-838 VH-VYB operated QF77 from Perth to Singapore on March 19 and on arrival in Singapore it was moved to the SIA Engineering Company hangar for a repaint in the current Qantas colours. On April 1 VH-VYB returned to service when it operated QF72 from Singapore to Perth.

737-838 VH-VYC operated QF71 from Perth to Singapore on April 1 where on arrival it was repainted in the current Qantas colours.

QantasLink took delivery of 717-2K9 VH-YQY in Adelaide on January 23 with the aircraft then ferrying to Brisbane as QF6200 on March 20. VH-YQY entered service with QantasLink on March 22 when it operated QF1553 from Brisbane to Canberra.

Jetstar A320-232/SL VH-VFX rolled out at Melbourne on March 13 after it had decals affixed promoting the film Kung Fu Panda 3.

A320-232 VH-VGU, which had been in Singapore for maintenance since February 18, returned to Melbourne from Singapore and Darwin as JQ7994 on March 9.

A320-232 VH-VGV, which had been in Singapore for maintenance since February 20, returned to Melbourne from Singapore and Darwin as JQ7996 on March 10.

A320-232 VH-VQS, which had been in Seletar for maintenance since February 17, returned to Melbourne from Seletar and Darwin as JQ7998 on March 15.

Airline news

In this issue we report the delivery of a 737-400F to Airwork and an ATR 72-600 to ANZ Link/Mount Cook and the departures of three Beech 1900Ds of ANZ Link/ Eagle Airways.

Air New Zealand 777-319ER ZK-OKM operated NZ87 from Auckland to Hong Kong on March 23 and on arrival (March 24) ferried as NZ6011 to Paya Lebar for planned maintenance.

On completion of its planned maintenance 777-319ER ZK-OKP ferried as NZ6012 from Paya Lebar to Hong Kong on March 24 and then operated NZ80 from Hong Kong to Auckland.

Air New Zealand Link/Mount Cook took delivery of ATR 72-600 ZK-MVJ at Christchurch on March 24 after it completed its ferry flight from Toulouse. The ferry, which was contracted to Southern Cross, operated as SXI1614 via Alexandria, Al Ain, Nagpur, Penang, Kupang and Brisbane. ZK-MVJ entered service on March 31 when it operated NZ5096 from Christchurch to Wellington.

Air New Zealand Link/Eagle Airways has sold Beech 1900Ds ZK-EAD, ZK-EAF and ZK-EAO, to Mesiglo of Lanseria, South Africa and on March 9 Mesiglo became their registered holder. The aircraft departed Hamilton on March 15 for Norfolk Island, Brisbane, Alice Springs, Broome and Denpasar where they arrived on March 17. Prior to departure from Hamilton the 1900Ds had their ANZ Link titles removed while the koru was partially removed. The three 1900Ds were cancelled from the New Zealand register on March 24.

Beech 1900D ZK-EAG was withdrawn from service on March 25 after operating NZ2102 from Palmerston North to Hamilton, while Beech 1900D ZK-EAC was withdrawn from service on March 30 after operating NZ2106 from Palmerston North to Hamilton. ZK-EAC and ZK-EAG were then parked at Hamilton alongside Beech 1900Ds ZK-EAH, ZK-EAJ and ZK-EAM while awaiting disposal.

Airnorth commenced operations between Wellcamp and Melbourne on March 14 with E170-100LR VH-ANT operating the inaugural flight ANO130. On March 15 Airnorth commenced services from Wellcamp to Cairns with VH-ANT operating the inaugural ANO140.

Airwork took delivery of 737-476F N943NZ at Auckland on March 20 after the all-white aircraft completed its ferry flight from Dothan/Alabama via Oakland, Honolulu and Pago Pago. The 737, which was previously operated by Qantas as VH-TJR, was registered ZK-PAQ on March 22.

737-476F ZK-TLK, which was delivered to Airwork in Brisbane on January 31 as N934NZ, ferried from Brisbane to Auckland as AWK737 on March 12.

Airwork currently has F27-500s ZK-PAX and ZK-POH listed for sale.

Alliance cancelled Fokker 100 VH-FKL from the register on March 23 as ‘no longer used as an aircraft’. Registered N895US and carrying US Airways colours, the Fokker 100 was originally delivered to Brisbane on September 11 ’07 ahead of being registered VH-FKL on October 2 ’07. It was stripped of parts over the years and was donated to Aviation Australia in October ’13.

Virgin Group News

E190-100IGW VH-ZPF was withdrawn from Virgin Australia service on March 28 after operating VOZ1405 from Adelaide to Brisbane. As VOZ9901 it then departed Brisbane on March 30 on ferry to Nashville via Apia, Honolulu and Van Nuys.

E190-100IGW VH-ZPD, which departed Brisbane for Nashville on February 2 (Traffic/April), ferried from Nashville to Roswell, New Mexico as VOZ9904 on March 9. It then returned to Nashville from Roswell as VOZ9903 on March 21.

777-3ZGER VH-VPD was ferried from Los Angeles to Lake Charles, Louisiana as VOZ9949 on February 24 for planned maintenance.

A330-243 VH-XFE ferried from Perth to Paya Lebar as VOZ9945 on March 15 for planned maintenance. It ferried from Paya Lebar to Perth as VOZ9946 on March 26 on completion of its maintenance.

CIT Leasing Corporation 737-8BK N330XW, which was the former VH-VOX, arrived at Oklahoma City on March 17 after ferrying from Jakarta, Guam and Honolulu.

737-8FE VH-VOY was withdrawn from Virgin Australia service on March 7 after operating VOZ9532 from Hamilton Island to Brisbane. Later the same day it ferried as VOZ9901 from Brisbane to Townsville where it entered the Flying Colours hangar for repainting in Tigerair colours (see Tigerair below).

737-8FE VH-YIT, which had been in maintenance in Jakarta since February 27, ferried from Jakarta to Brisbane on March 12 as VOZ9944 and return to service.

737-8FE VH-YFJ ferried from Perth to Jakarta on March 11 as VOZ9943 for planned maintenance. It returned to Perth from Jakarta as VOZ9944 on March 21 on completion of its maintenance.

Tigerair commenced services with 737-800 equipment on March 23 with flights to Denpasar from Adelaide, Melbourne and Perth.

737-8FE VH-VOR operated the first service from Melbourne to Denpasar on March 23 as TGW1. Also on March 23 it operated the first service from Denpasar to Perth as TGW24.

737-8FE VH-VOY (see above) was repainted in Tigerair colours in Townsville before being delivered to Melbourne on March 14 as VOZ9020. On March 23 it ferried from Melbourne to Adelaide as TGW9020 and the same day operated the inaugural service from Adelaide to Denpasar as TGW17.

737-8FE VH-VUB, having completed its planned maintenance in Seletar (Traffic/April), ferried to Melbourne as TGW9020 on March 17. It entered service with Tigerair on April 2 when it operated TGW1 from Melbourne to Denpasar.

Regional airline news

Aeroptic King Air 100 N948HB arrived in

In this issue we report the delivery of an S-92A to Bristow Helicopters and a Commander 690B to Talofa Airways, and the departures of a Fokker 50 of Travel Air and a Dash 8-100 of PNG Air.

Air Caledonie ferried ATR 42-500 F-OIPI from Noumea/ Magenta to Nelson on March 6 as TPC7201 with the aircraft then entering the ANZ Regional maintenance facility.

De Bruin Air has sold Jetstream 32 VH-OAM to Pelican Airlines (see below).

Hevilift PNG ferried its all-white DHC-6-300 P2-KSW into Cairns from Port Moresby on February 11. On March 3 P2-KSW was noted to be carrying Solomons titles and on March 5 it departed Cairns for Gurney and Gizo and onward delivery to Solomons.

Karratha Flying Services has terminated operations with DHC-6-200 VH-XFM with the aircraft departing Karratha on February 2 for Broome, Halls Creek, Tennant Creek, Normanton and Cairns where it arrived on February 3. The registered owner of VH-XFM is Ryebridge Air of North Vancouver.

PNG Air has sold Dash 8-102 P2-MCY in the US with the aircraft departing Port Moresby on March 16 on the first leg of its delivery flight. P2-MCY was later noted ferrying from Brindisi to Luxembourg, Belfast and Keflavik on March 24/25 before arriving at its destination at the Dynamic Aviation facility at Bridgewater Air Park, Virginia on March 27.

Pelican Airlines has purchased Jetstream 32 VH-OAM from De Bruin Air with the aircraft departing Mount Gambier for Bankstown on February 13. VH-OAM was registered to Pelican Airlines on March 8.

Regional Express placed Saab 340B VH-ZXG into service on March 8 operating ZL668 from Wagga Wagga to Sydney. The Saab entered service with Regional Express still carrying the basic colours of Silver Airways which previously operated the aircraft in the US.

Saab 340B VH-ZXK, which entered service on February 29 (Traffic/April), did so carrying the colours and titles of Silver Airways.

Solomon Airlines has taken delivery of DHC-6-300 P2-KSW which was previously operated by Hevilift PNG (see above).

Sounds Air took delivery of PC-12/45 VH-NWO at Auckland on April 2 after the aircraft ferried in from the Gold Coast. VH-NWO was painted in Sounds Air colours at Redcliffe by Flinders Aviation and initially it carried the New Zealand registration (ZK-)PLX, but this was covered over by VH-NWO for the delivery flight.

Talofa Airways took delivery of Commander 690B N121ML at Apia on April 5 after the aircraft ferried in from Merced and Honolulu. The Commander was later allocated the registration 5W-TAL.

Commander 690B N690GG, which was delivered to Apia February 17 (Traffic/April), has been allocated the registration 5W-JMJ.

Travel Air ferried Fokker 50 P2-TAH into Maastricht, Holland from Hurghada and Izmir on March 25 on completion of its flight from Port Moresby (Traffic/April).

Fokker 50 P2-TAE, which was ferried by Southern Cross as SXI1604, departed Port Moresby for Kupang on March 18 with the aircraft reportedly destined for Maastricht.

Challenger 604 VH-XND sn 5634 was registered on March 31 with the holder Cobham SAR Services of Adelaide and the operator Surveillance Australia of Adelaide. It was delivered to Adelaide on March 4 then registered C-FKUL (Traffic/April).

Eclipse 500 N570RG arrived at Wellington on March 22 but whether the aircraft remains in New Zealand or is only visiting remains to be seen. N570RG routed via Denpasar, Broome, Tennant Creek, Proserpine, Gold Coast, Norfolk Island and Auckland.

BR Aero Holdings Citation S/II N112BR, which arrived Auckland on November 1 ’15 (Traffic/ December), has since remained in New Zealand, however, on March 30 it departed Auckland for Sydney and Bankstown.

Global Express VH-CCD changed its registered holder on March 10 from Crown Melbourne to Bank of America, National Association of Sydney.

Hawker 800XP VH-RIU had its registered holder changed on March 10 from SC Aviation to Bezza Holdings of Osborne Park, WA.

Learjet 35 VH-LRX changed its registered operator on March 9 from Pacific Flight Services to GoJet of North Nowra, NSW.

In propjet news we can report the delivery of PC-12/47E VH-VTF sn 1607 to Poolhurst of Brisbane. It was registered on March 14 and was delivered to the Gold Coast on March 31 from Sandakan, Darwin and Mount Isa.

King Air 350 VH-JEA, which is registered to TG Equipment of Cooroy, Queensland departed Toowoomba for Cairns on April 2 before continuing the following day to Majuro.

King Air 350 RP-C2638 arrived at Bankstown on March 30 from Lombok, Darwin and Mt Isa.

Pearl Aviation King Air 200 VH-OYA has been sold to Australasian Jet with the register change taking place on March 8. VH-OYA had earlier arrived at Essendon from Darwin and Alice Springs on January 13.

Aeroptic King Air 100 N948HB arrived in Cairns from Denpasar and Darwin on March 22.

Dynamic Avlease King Air A90 N96Y, which had arrived in Adelaide from the United States on July 31 ’15 (Traffic/October), departed on March 16 for Brisbane, Noumea, Majuro, Honolulu and Monterey.

Swiss Air-Ambulance Challenger 604 HB-JRA arrived in Brisbane from Cebu on March 6 and departed to Denpasar on March 8.

Zest Aviation Challenger 604 VT-ZST arrived Canberra from Surabaya on March 31 before continuing to Melbourne on April 1. It departed Melbourne for Surabaya on April 1.

Cessna 208 VH-FLL, which is registered to Advance Aviation of Emerald, departed Townsville for Port Moresby on March 3.

Cessna 172A VH-CYP ferried across the country from South Porongurup, WA to Scone, NSW between March 8 and March 12, routed via Albany, Esperance, Rawlinna, Forrest, Nullabor, Ceduna, Port Augusta, Broken Hill, Wilcannia, Cobar and Dubbo.

Cessna 172B N7706X arrived at Darwin from Kupang on March 14.

Cirrus SR22 N156SR arrived on the Gold Coast on March 19 after ferrying in from Santa Maria, Kahului and Pago Pago.

Cirrus SR22 N441CG completed its trans-Pacific crossing at the Gold Coast on March 12 after ferrying in from San Luis Obispo, Hilo and Pago Pago.

Cirrus SR22 VH-SRI departed Port Macquarie for Lord Howe Island and Norfolk Island on March 9 before continuing to Kerikeri on March 12. It remained in New Zealand until April 2 when it departed Kerikeri for Norfolk, Lord Howe and Port Macquarie (arriving April 3).

Cirrus SR20 VH-OUU was registered to SF Aviation on February 24 and arrived in Broome from Kupang on March 25. Cirrus SR20 N308JS arrived on the Gold Coast on March 31 from Santa Maria, Kahului and Pago Pago.

DHC-6-400/FP N153QS departed Darwin for Ambon on March 5 before returning to Darwin on March 12 and continuing to Cairns on March 13.

Kiwi Air PAC 750XL ZK-XLE departed Auckland for Norfolk Island, Lord Howe Island and the Gold Coast on March 25.

PA-30s VH-MEG, VH-PBH and VH-TSJ departed Port Macquarie for Lord Howe Island and Norfolk Island on March 9 before continuing to Kerikeri on March 11. They remained in New Zealand until April 2 when they departed Kerikeri for Norfolk Island, Lord Howe Island and Port Macquarie (arriving April 3).

PA-30 VH-HPR departed Bankstown on March 19 for Lord Howe Island, Norfolk Island and Kerikeri (arriving March 20). It remained in New Zealand until March 28 when it departed Kerikeri for Norfolk Island, Lord Howe Island and Bankstown (arriving March 29).

PA-30 VH-MAC departed Coffs Harbour for Lord Howe Island and Norfolk Island on March 20 before continuing to Kerikeri on March 21. It remained in New Zealand until March 28 when it departed Kerikeri for Norfolk Island, Lord Howe Island and Coffs Harbour (arriving March 30).

Quest Kodiak N150KQ departed Jandakot on April 4 for Paraburdoo, Broome and Denpasar on completion of its demonstration tour of Australia and Papua New Guinea.

Sikorsky S-92A VH-NBP was registered to Bristow Helicopters Australia on February 24. However, when it arrived at Essendon by truck on March 18 it was noted still carrying its previous registration N259CV as well as ‘Coast Guard Rescue’ titles.

State of Qatar Amiri Flight A340-313X A7-AAH as QAF10 arrived in Sydney ex Doha on March 16. It departed for Perth on March 20 before continuing to Doha on March 21. It returned to Perth from Doha on March 31 and after overnighting returned to Doha.

Hawaiian A330-243 N380HA as HA9981 ferried into Brisbane from Honolulu on March 28 for planned maintenance at Qantas.

A330-343E LZ-AWF arrived at Alice Springs from Singapore on March 25 and on arrival it was placed in storage. The all-white A330-343E was previously operated by Singapore Airlines as 9V-STK.

Capital Airlines A319-133(CJ) B-6418 transited Cairns on March 9 while en route from Queenstown to Singapore.

Gainjet Aviation 757-23N/W SX-RFA arrived in Melbourne from Auckland on March 7 and departed to Halim on March 8.

Sultan of Johor 737-8ZE/BBJ2 9M-III arrived in Perth from Subang on March 8 before returning there on March 12.

Longtail Aviation 737-700/ BBJ VP-BOP ‘LGT1’ arrived in Sydney from Male on March 20 and departed on March 21 to Honolulu.

Maleth-Aero 737-7ZX/BBJ 9H-GGG arrived in Brisbane from Haneda on March 29 and departed to Queenstown on April 1.

US Air Force/ANG 737-7CP/ C-40C 02-0201 ‘Boxer 42’ arrived in Sydney from Osan and Darwin on March 30.

United States of America 737-7CP/ C-40B 01-0015 ‘Spar 55’ arrived in Canberra from Pago Pago on March 14 and then operated a return flight to Alice Springs on March 15. It departed Canberra for Guam on March 16.

Weststar 727-23RE N800AK arrived in Perth from Subang on April 3. It returned to Subang on April 7.

Conair RJ85 N355AC departed Avalon on March 8 for Brisbane, Honiara, Majuro, Honolulu and Abbotsford on termination of its fire attack contract.

China United CRJ-200BLR B-4010, having finished its planned maintenance, departed Essendon on April 1 for Cairns, Darwin and Kota Kinabalu.

Coulson Lockheed L-382G N405LC as LYC405 departed Avalon on March 5 for Port Hedland and Paya Lebar on termination of its fire attack contract.

RAF Lockheed C-130J-30 ZH865 as RR5704 arrived in Darwin on March 5. It later visited Canberra and Sydney before departing Perth for Jakarta on March 9.

US Air Force/AMC KC-10A 82-0192 ‘Reach 091’ arrived in Brisbane from Andersen AFB on March 25, having operated in support of five US Navy F/A-18E Super Hornets which earlier landed at Townsville. It departed Brisbane for Andersen on March 26.

US Air Force/AMC KC-10A 83-0076 ‘Reach 081’ arrived in Brisbane from Andersen AFB on March 27, having operated in support of three US Navy F/A-18Es which earlier landed at Townsville. It departed Brisbane for Hickam on March 29.

The Australian F1 Grand Prix, which was run in Melbourne on March 20, attracted a number of interesting freighter aircraft to Avalon.

Air Bridge Cargo 747-8F VQ-BFU as flight ABW9394 arrived at Avalon from Hong Kong on March 8.

Atlas Air 747-47UF/SCD N409MC arrived at Avalon on March 12 and was followed by Atlas Air 747-47UF/SCD N499MC on March 13 and Atlas Air 747-48EF N419MC also on March 13.

Air Bridge Cargo 747-8 VQ-BRJ as flight ABW9395 arrived at Avalon from Singapore on March 22 before returning to Singapore as ABW9398 on March 23.

Etihad Cargo 747-47UF/SCD N476MC as flight ETD9985 arrived at Avalon from Singapore on March 23 and the same day returned to Singapore as ETD9986.

Etihad Cargo 747-87UF N855GT as flight ETD9985 arrived at Avalon from Singapore on March 25 and departed for Singapore as ETD9986 on March 26.
