Joyce pilots Qantas’s revival
Running an international airline means spending a lot of time at or close to 40,000 feet. For Qantas chief executive Alan Joyce, that represents a chance to talk to staff at the front line, those dealing with the day-to-day issues of keeping the flights on time, keeping the customers happy and, importantly, ensuring they keep winning the traveller’s business.
The feedback he was getting as he travelled around the Qantas network in the aftermath of last year’s stunning $2. 853 billion loss were those of concerned staff fearful about where this Australian icon was heading.
