There is no doubt that regional aviation is in for a couple of challenging years, along with the rest of our economy. These aviation services are essential to regional towns and the remote areas. If RPT, charter, freight and training are to thrive or even survive it comes down firstly to controlling costs. This means on every possible front including government fees, airport charges, and the cost of the combined goods and services that must be purchased to keep an operation going, pricing restraint must be shown.
You only have to travel irregularly overseas to understand that Australia is an expensive place to do business. This aspect of our economy must be reined in if we are to remain competitive globally. We do not live in a bubble and many experienced aviation leaders from overseas have commented how they would struggle to remain commercially viable in Australia.
