The spotlight fell on the future of unmanned aircraft in the ADF at the recent Avalon Airshow
Chief of Air Force (CAF) Air Marshal Geoff Brown is keen to see the unmanned MQ-4C Triton pressed into Australian service as soon as possible to bring about what he believes will be a revolution in the way that surveillance tasks are undertaken.
And if Australia decides to approach this likely acquisition as a partner in a cooperative program, which Defence has confirmed is being considered,Australian industry will no doubt be similarly excited by the prospect of the unmanned maritime surveillance platform winging its way to South Australia, and the business opportunities this type of participation could provide – in addition to anticipated work that would be derived from preparing facilities and supporting the capability in coming years.
