Low-cost carrier Scoot has expanded its Australian network through a partnership with Virgin Australia.

The Singapore Airlines-owned Scoot said on Monday passengers on its services to Australia – Scoot currently serves the Gold Coast, Perth, Sydney and, from November, Melbourne, from its Singapore hub – were now able to buy tickets that included connections on Virgin-operated flights to eight new local ports in one transaction.

These new Virgin-operated destinations were Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Cairns, Hobart, Launceston, Melbourne and Uluru.

“Our new partnership with Virgin Australia expands our coverage of Australia yet further,” Scoot chief executive Campbell Wilson said in a statement on Monday.

While Scoot partners with Tigerair at Singapore, promoting transfer traffic between the two carriers and selling seats on each other’s flights, a Scoot spokesperson said the airline had “no arrangement” with Tigerair Australia.

In addition to being the 100 per cent owner of Scoot, Singapore Airlines holds a little over 20 per cent of Virgin and is a majority shareholder of Tigerair Singapore.

Virgin recently completed a full takeover of Tigerair Australia.

Good news. Hope one day SCOOT will fly direct to Adelaide with their 787 Dreamliners as our 3,100m runway will be ideally suited. B777-200ER breaks heavily on this length. Noe that “AirASIA ‘X’ has decided to end its service Adelaide to Kuala Lumpur it would be ideal entry to Asia Adelaide to Singapore direct. Keep fingers crossed for a direct ADL-SIN with SCOOT Dreamliner.
