RAAF key to withdrawal of Australian forces from Afghanistan

After 13 years of war in Afghanistan, the task of withdrawing Australian and Coalition combat forces out of the theatre and transitioning towards the international follow-on Operation Resolute Support post-2014 is a mammoth one, and one in which the RAAF is front and centre.

The Air Mobility Task Unit, consisting of two RAAF C-130 Hercules based at the Al Minhad Air Base in the United Arab Emirates, have been the key link in airlift support in the Middle East Area of Operations (MEAO) since the deployment commenced in February 2003.
