Fostering a sustainable regional aviation industry

Most readers of this column will notice that I try to remain positive with respect to regional aviation. It is this sector that most effectively links the bush to the major cities. With Australia’s demographic, the sector is as important as good roads and telecommunications. In short, regional aviation is vital to our economy and our highly dispersed communities.

Our sector is the canary in the cage of the commercial aviation industry. Make no mistake, the canary is gasping under the weight of government-imposed costs.
