The rise and rise of Jetstar
While it seems everyone has something to say about low-cost airlines, no-one can deny their success. Today budget airlines account for around 26 per cent of the global airline market. Their influence is being felt in regions that have been both quick to embrace low-cost travel and now others such as Asia, where the emergence of an increasingly mobile middle class is driving demand for products such as Lion Air, Air Asia and, of course, Jetstar.
In its brief eight-year history Jetstar has carried more than 100 million passengers across a growing network in Australia, New Zealand and Asia, and will soon welcome its 100th aircraft into the fleet. Based on gross revenue, the Jetstar Group is now the largest and fastest growing low-cost airline brand in the Asia Pacific region.
