Harnessing the future
One of the great things about my job is the calls I receive from young people wanting information about a career in aviation. The calls are regular, at least one a week, and surprisingly similar; a relatively nervous voice at the end of the phone, not sure about what questions to ask but with a clear interest in an aviation career. It is usually a cold call, not a text or an e-mail. These young people want to make contact, to speak to a person and to discuss some options.
As many recognise in our industry, we need to harness this interest and do more with it. This is particularly true for the engineering professions and the emerging areas of operations, airport management, security, HR, finance and aviation law.
