…cameraman John Bean on August 18 when the ABC Television Squirrel helicopter they were travelling in crashed near Lake Eyre, outback South Australia. Ticehurst, 60 – pictured here in the right hand seat of the ABC’s Squirrel during the Sydney-Hobart yacht race – was a veteran pilot with 16,000 flying hours experience, and had been flying the ABC Television helicopter since 1980, after training and serving as a pilot in the Army.
