Asian expansion, job cuts long haul contraction spearhead Qantas international changes
Qantas has announced the most far reaching and comprehensive restructure since its merger with Australian Airlines and privatization nearly two decades ago with routes cut, staff lay-offs, aircraft deferred and retired and the launch of two new off-shore airlines to capture growth in Asia.
It has also placed a massive order for 110, 180-seat Airbus A320s, including 78 A320neos, with a further 194 purchase rights and options, worth $9 billion for growth of its Jetstar operations and for the new “premium” airline to be based in Asia.
