The first Virgin Australia/Skywest ATR 72, VH-FVH, arrived in Brisbane on August 18 at the end of its delivery flight from Toulouse.
The aircraft, which made an appearance at Bundaberg on August 2o at the Wide Bay Airshow, will be placed into Virgin Australia service in mid October.

i am wondering does the ATR 72 have the prop brake that air queensland aTr 42 used to use 30 years ago
where the right engine would start with out running the right prop. then prop starts then left engine starts or right engine then left engine then right prop. i can not remember. or will virgin just put a GPU and start the right engine normally with prop running or did virgin use APU for their ATR72

It does have a RH prop brake – called “Hotel” mode. Acts as the APU, allowing power generation and aircon. Clever reduction in weight and utilising robust power plant for auxilliary requirements. Deceptively simple yet tricky when other prop’s and jets in category have nothing like it!

give virgin a chance they are only 10 or 11 years old. They have done well for them selves. i want to see V australia go to more destinations like Brisbane and melbourne to Abu Dhabi and other asian and may be south american destinations

I went on ATR’s in Philippines recently (operated by Cebu Pacific), and I was very impressed. Quiet and comfortable, and the RH engine prop clutch is pretty cool.
I agree with Keith, and hope they include NW Tas in schedules as we are really forced to fly out of Launceston to get the cheap fares.
