Uncontained consequences

The seriousness of the uncontained engine failure that crippled a Qantas A380 in early November after take-off from Singapore become apparent as less glamorous but far more lethal wreckage was uncovered.

Well away from the high profile engine cowling wreckage with the familiar Qantas colours of red and white which media focused on there was half of the intermediate pressure turbine disc weighing about 60kg which was miraculously hurled away from the fuselage and wing of the A380.
