The White Paper National Aviation Policy Statement will include the terms of reference for a joint federal-NSW government study which will examine options for a new airport to serve Sydney, Infrastructure & Transport Minister Anthony Albanese said on November 25.

“This joint study will look at ways of providing integrated transport solutions for the existing airport as well as additional airport capacity,” the minister said in a statement.

“It will also consider the future of the Badgerys Creek site given the government has ruled it out as an option for a second airport. This will focus on how the site can provide a stimulus for jobs and economic development for western Sydney.”

Evidently in response to recent reports that Richmond was being considered as an interim second airport, the minister said, “In the meantime, the government will not engage in speculation about individual locations.”
