JASSM test successes

written by australianaviation.com.au | October 8, 2009

The USAF has reportedly said recent tests of Lockheed Martin AGM-158 JASSM missiles have been successful, possibly clearing the way for a possible return to production and service for the weapon.

The JASSM has had a troubled history in recent years, scoring low success percentages on test shots due to interference with the weapon’s GPS targeting system and other gremlins in the system.

A total of 16 test shots were conducted, with the missile successful in 15 of those shots, higher than the 13 successful shots Lockheed Martin had hoped to achieve.

The RAAF has ordered the JASSM for its F/A-18A/B Hornets under Project Air 5418, and has refused any interviews about the RAAF program until the completion and assessment of these test shots.
