risky business ? MacAir Saab 340s parked at Townsville in early June awaiting new operators. (Paul Sadler)

The Price Of Failure

The casualty toll is starting to mount: MacAir, SkyAirWorld, and now OzJet. The precariousness of the aviation business has once more been underlined by the collapse of these three middle ranking airline/charter operators.

The three certainly had diverse aircraft types – MacAir used its second-hand Metro and Saab turboprops for regional Queensland RPT and mine charter flying; SkyAirWorld used new or near new Embraer E-Jets and ERJ‑145s on a range of RPT and contract charter work; while OzJet used 30+ year old Boeing 737-200s on an eclectic mix of charter, RPT and contract flying for the likes of IndoJet and Norfolk Air.
