…USAAF 317th Troop Carrier Group ‘Jungle Skippers’ 39th Squadron in New Guinea from 1944, postwar joining the civil register in Australia, initially as VH-DMV but soon becoming VH-CAO with the Department of Civil Aviation. Its final mark was VH-BAB which it wore until 1978 when it was removed from service. (Craig Murray)

In the Uk the Last Two Passenger-carrying Dakotas Are Being Forced Into Retirement Because of H&s Rules. Coventry Based Air Atlantique Has Decided That It Would Be Too Expensive to Fit the Required Emergency Escape Slides and Weather Radar Systems Required by the New European Rules for Their 65 Year Old Aircraft.
