• British Aerospace announced the conditional launch of the Avro RJX at the Avalon Airshow on February 16. With the same range of cabin configurations as the Avro RJ range, this new version will be powered by four 7000lb (31kN) AlliedSignal AS977-1A turbofans.
• After eight years of acquiescence, Iraq began to assertively challenge the enforcement of the northern no-fly zone. On January 24, after detecting illumination from an Iraqi SAM site near Mosul, two USAF F-16CJs and a Marine Corps EA-6B Prowler fired HARM missiles at the site.
