Bids in for Anzac Helos
Tenders for the RAN’s project SEA 1441 for 14 helicopters for the Anzac frigates (with an option for aircraft for the OPCs) closed on March 20, and details have since emerged about the equipment fits the two contenders are offering on their respective aircraft.
Key elements of Westland’s bid offering include: two LHTEC (AlliedSignal/Allison) CTS800 turboshafts in place of the base aircraft’s Rolls-Royce Gems, choice of the Marconi Blue Kestrel 6500 or Elta AIJM2022A(V)H search radars, and BAeA SearchIR or GEC Marconi MST-S FLIR. It would be armed with the BAe Improved Sea Skua or the OTO Melara Marte Mk2 ASMs.
