Kiwi To Expand
Five month old Kiwi Travel International Airlines is to acquire an additional Boeing 757 around next Easter. The twinjet will be leased from Air 2000, the providers of Kiwi’s present 757, and will be used to expand services to include Melbourne and Hawaii. The fledgling airline has also signed interline agreements with Vietnam Airlines and Korea’s Asiana and is in discussion with several other internationals regarding interline links. Kiwi also hopes to have access to SITA’s Gabriel II CRS system by March, a move that will greatly boost the efficiency and handling capability of the Kiwi reservation system. Meanwhile, CEO and major shareholder, Ewan Wilson, has flagged the possibility of the airline going public later this year to raise money for expansion. Initially a share offer to employees will be offered followed by a public launch some months later. Ewan Wilson predicted a $NZ2.2m operating profit on projected turnover of $NZ26m for the year ended August 96 and was confident that the company would turn a $NZ750,000 profit in its first half year to March.
Rockwell Wins Raaf Gps Contract
Rockwell Australia has been selected as the preferred contractor to provide military Global Positioning Systems (GPS) for the RAAF’s C-130H Hercules and Boeing 707 tanker/transports plus its HS.748 navigation trainers. The RAN’s HS.748s will also be equipped with GPS. Rockwell will be responsible for the design and integration of the GPS with other navigation systems and for spares support and flight testing. The installations will be completed by Qantas at its Sydney base while Sydney company Scientific Management Associates will produce the detailed documentation required for the aircraft modifications. The programme begins in July this year and is scheduled to be completed by early 1998.
