Kestrel Aircraft has rolled out the prototype of its all new four place KL-1A light aircraft, with first flight imminent at presstime. The KL-1A features composite construction for the fuselage, cowling, empennage, flight controls and wing, reducing the hazards of corrosion and fatigue and allowing a clean, aerodynamic profile. It is powered by a 160hp (110kW) air cooled Lycoming O-320 driving a fixed pitch prop, will be certificated to FAR Part 23, and has a planned base list price of $US89,500. The KL-1A is the first of a planned family of KL-1 light aircraft based on the same basic airframe design, with more powerful and higher performance models with fixed or retractable undercarriage, and a six place utility version planned.
